Monticello Main Street Event, This Friday!

The shops and galleries on Courthouse Square will be celebrating First Friday with a wonderful Wine (*and Soda tasting!) and Cheese Shopwalk. Many of Monticello's unique shops and galleries will be offering visitors free wine and cheese between 6pm and 830pm on Friday, November 6th.

Walking the historic square and enjoying each merchant will be a memorable way to experience the romance and warmth of Monticello. Follow the signs around Courthouse Square to check-in and begin your walk.

Soda of the Week: Cheerwine

Most people in the southeast part of the country have heard of Cheerwine, it even makes a cameo in the Mitford series of books.

It has actually been around since 1917, it has a sweet cherry flavor and lots of carbonation, "it made sense to name a burgundy-red, bubbly, cherry concoction—Cheerwine."

Soda of the Week: Capt'n Eli's Blueberry Soda

Sorry for such a long wait between blogs, I guess everyone needs a vacation sometime, right?  Well our vacation landed us in Maine, and what does Maine do best?  Blueberries!  Shipyard Brewing Company has a soda division called "Capt'n Eli"  

You can visit their site and read all about his undersea adventures in their comic books.  It's very cute, but all cuteness aside - it's VERY good soda made is actual blueberry juice!  I could only bring back 5 cases squeezed between my 4 kid's car seats, so come and get it while it's still here!

Soda of the Week: Bubble Up

Bubble Up was first made the same year as our popcorn truck, 1917! It was produced by the Sweet Valley Products Company in Ohio. Subsequently, it was owned by the Bubble Up Company in Chicago. I think this is why Bubble Up is very popular in this part of the county, many people come into the store with decades of memories sipping Bubble Up after a baseball game.
It tastes very similar to 7-Up, but Bubble Up predates 7-Up by about 10 years! The tag line... "A kiss of Lemon, A kiss of Lime".

Soda of the Week: Dang Butterscotch Root Beer

This has always been a popular soda in the store, but we have been out of it for most of spring.  So I recently made my first visit to their bottling company in Milwaukee Wisconsin to get a restock of inventory.  Imperial Flavors (the company who makes Dang), is a family owned operation.  I was met at the door by their HUGE, gentle dog that just kinda saunters around the office and sleeps under the desks.  They loaded me up with sodas and then they took me to their storage room and dug out some hats and t-shirts they make with the Dang logo.  They also had cute signage that they made up years back.  I thought you'd all enjoy it!
We are now fully stocked on Dang, and we will continue to be from here on out!

Soda of the week: Nehi Grape

Nehi Grape soda is one of the most popular sodas that we carry.  It's one of those things that people remember from their childhood, and to sip it in a glass bottle... ahh.. it brings back memories of yesteryear. 

History of Nehi from Wikipedia:

The Chero-Cola company added Nehi Cola to its line of sodas in 1924 in order to offer more variety of soda flavors. It offered orange, grape, root beer, peach, and other flavors of soda. Nehi was instantly successful and outsold Chero-Cola entirely. The company changed its name to Nehi Corporation in 1928.

Trivia:  Grape Nehi was the drink of choice for "Radar" from M*A*S*H
